Project’s concert raises £1,700

A free fundraising concert for a Wells school's Sierra Leone project was held at Dulverton All Saints Church on Friday.

Wells Cathedral School Sixth Form students Johanna Harrison, from Dulverton, and Miranda Lim, from Salisbury, accompanied by David Knight, from All Saints Church, sung a varied concert of vocal pieces, ranging from Pergolesi and Bach to Barber and Gershwin to a large audience of residents and visitors.

Donations came from local businesses, residents and visitors.

All money raised will go to the Wells Cathedral School Sierra Leone Project.

The project helps with developing schools in the capital, Freetown, including the country's only music academy, at which the students will be giving performances and masterclasses.

At the concert, Michael Meally, a teacher at Wells Cathedral School, gave a presentation about the project and forthcoming trip to Freetown, which he, Johanna and Miranda, together with a group of staff and pupils will be making in October. The concert raised £1,700.
