Saturday, 19th October

We arrived at Gatwick at 8am full of mixed emotions and ready to embark on our African adventure. After a very smooth check-in, it wasn't long before we were on the plane and on our way to Freetown. Nurry's face dropped as she realised that she had been sat between Miss Hugill and Mr Meally, but luckily the plane was half full so she was able to move as soon as the seat belt sign had been switched off! The flight was enjoyed by all, especially by Anna C who had three helpings of lunch!

After 6 1/2 hours (and a very quick descent) we were glad to land on Sierra Leone soil. We bustled our way through the airport and were met by Bai Bai who had been asked to meet us and arrange our speed boat transfer across the water. The seas were choppy but after a speedy ride we were there and greeted warmly by our escort Lamin and our friends from the Ballanta Music Academy. They quickly loaded us, and the mountain of luggage, onto a bus and we were on our way to the "Comfort Zone" guest house which would be our home for the next 11 days.

The ride was bumpy but short and after quickly sorting out the allocation of rooms and putting up mosquito nets, all were sound asleep and ready for our adventure to start.
