Salone 23: Day 6..Murraydeen!!!!!

Today was a pretty standard work day in Freetown for all of us. After the usual hearty breakfast, JTR left us around 8:30 whilst BAMPA pupils got an extra 30 minutes chilling time, before heading into town. At Ballanta, we continued to teach our individual lessons, with Nina getting into her dance moves with some of the girls she had the previous day, Shimmy Shelley doing her Drama, and musos getting into the swing of things: we decided to mix it up a bit and to merge parties with a bass sax jazz duet. Holly and myself stood there like the proud teachers we were. Mr C got stuck in as well, and ended up teaching some of the kids from Milton Margai school for the blind, here for lessons. However our jam was abruptly cut short by a lunchtime outreach concert we had not planned on: it seems it was int he schedule, but had not be explained to Mr C… needless to say, we didn’t see that one coming, but we soldiered on and delivered a nice gig.
Meanwhile, at JTR, the young teachers were getting a taste of reality from the general herself- she gave them a lesson plan (yep some teachers still have them apparently!) in order to deliver some French to Prep 5 Blue, whilst she delivered the lesson to Prep 5 Orange. That was after having booted out of Prep 4 by a rather grumpy teacher (apparently he did not want them because pupils were doing a test!), and having to improvise some drama games with excited Prep 3 classes. There was a lot of splat played, and What’s the time Mr Wolf? (Naughty Neil, it turns out, is not so good as Mr Wolf!). Some more Spanish and olé! It was time to join Ballanta for lunch.
Today, we had lovely pies again, before heading out to Murraydeen Primary school. The crowd went mad for Théo and Tobin’s Tequila, and then Chrina freed them all with the famous Let me go from Frozen… and we finished with our group song, Waka Waka, and got mobbed by the crowd as they all joined in- and we mean ALL hundreds of them! It was a blast having these outreach concerts and talking and bonding with the local children, with them asking for us to write our names on random bits of paper.
After the concert, we were treated with a quite relaxing afternoon with some pool action, relaxing times and a lovely cake provided by the legend and much loved hotel owner, Mr Jarward. We finished our day with our final meal at Papaya. Alex, Kelvin and JDA for JTR action and edits.
