Day 11: The Journey Home
A bittersweet day today. I sit by the pool to sum up what has once again been a fabulous trip to Sierra Leone whilst I anxiously wait for the pupils the pack and get out of their rooms on time. A task that has been easier said than done this week!
It has, unsurprisingly, been an incredible experience filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable moments for both staff and pupils. We thoroughly enjoyed immersing ourselves in the rich culture and traditions, especially being part of the vibrant Ballanta celebrations. This journey has given us all fresh perspectives and, of course, some funky trousers to show for it!
After days of rice and chicken, our tummies are definitely ready for a new change in flavours. The pupils have been absolutely brilliant throughout the trip, fully dedicated to teaching and eager to challenge themselves by stepping out of their comfort zones.
We have also had our share of laughs along the way. Mrs. Nash getting locked outside her room, and Mr Ashton stepping in some vomit on his quest to help her. Mrs. Ralls disappointing loss in cards, making for some tense but funny times. Mr. Ashton turned heads with his fabulous fashion choice for our final meal at Papaya. And we can’t forget Mr. Brink’s magic tricks that amazed and amused everyone.
We couldn’t be prouder of how well the pupils have represented Wells in Sierra Leone. It has truly been a wonderful and inspiring adventure for everyone involved. We are hoping for a smooth and uneventful journey home, ready for the shock that is going to be the english weather when we return.
